Welterweight contender Josesito Lopez (36-8) was last in action in January when he gave a spirited effort against the then unbeaten WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman. He ended up losing a majority decision in Brooklyn.
The Southern California native was floored in the second round but stormed back and badly hurt Thurman in the 7th round. Thurman was able to survive and finished the fight strong. He had been out of the ring over 2 years after having right elbow surgery.
Next up for Thurman was last month's pay-per-view showdown against Manny Pacquiao. Thurman hit the deck in the first round but fought back to make the fight close but ultimately lost a split decision.
Lopez was in attendance and felt that Pacquiao won the fight comfortably.
"It was good. It was a good scrap. I didn't think it was split decision. I had it a little decisively for Manny," Lopez told BoxingScene.com.
As for what is next for himself, Lopez said that he will return to the ring in the next few months.
When asked about a potential rematch against Thurman, he said that he is very interested.
"Yeah man, I think that would be a great rematch. I should be fighting by the end of the year but this was a good fight. We'll see about the rematch," Lopez stated.
