Shakur Stevenson shook his head and wouldn’t even attempt to get on the scale again Thursday afternoon at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Norfolk’s Olympic silver medal star, Keyshawn Davis, now has an opponent for his long-awaited ring return. Davis, who shined for Team USA last summer in Tokyo, will fight Mexican veteran Omar Tienda in an eight-round lightweight showdown Friday, Sept. 23, at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Brick City’s boxing superstar, Shakur Stevenson, is the junior lightweight king. He’ll soon return home to defend his throne. Stevenson, the WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine champion, puts his hardware on the line against Brazilian standout Robson Conceicao on Friday, Sept. 23, at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. In the eight-round lightweight co-feature, Tokyo 2020 U.S. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis returns against an opponent to be named.

Xander Zayas impressively handled an opponent Friday night who had only lost once before he encountered the highly touted prospect. Jose Luiz Sanchez occasionally exploited Zayas’ defensive flaws, but the hard-hitting, unbeaten Puerto Rican fighter mostly had his way with him. The 19-year-old Zayas won all six rounds according to judges Chris Flores (60-53), Steve Sandoval (60-54) and Roger Woods (60-53) – each of whom scored Zayas an easy winner on the Oscar Valdez-Robson Conceicao undercard at Casino Del Sol’s AVA Amphitheater in Tucson, Arizona.

Valdez, Conceicao Weights Photos Gallery - Oscar Valdez (29-0, 23 KO), making the first defense of his WBC Junior Lightweight title, faces 2016 Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceicao (16-0, 8 KO), tomorrow night live from the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, AZ. The entire card will stream exclusively on ESPN+ (English and Spanish) with undercard at 5:45 p.m. ET and the main card at 10 p.m. ET.

Given the amount of controversy in the pre-fight buildup, Oscar Valdez and Robson Conceicao at least spared the sport of any drama at the scale. Both boxers made weight ahead of their WBC junior lightweight title fight, which takes place Friday evening on ESPN and accompanying platforms from AVA Amphitheater at Casino del Sol in Tucson, Arizona. Valdez weighed 130 pounds for his first fight back in his childhood hometown since 2017, though not before having to remove his socks and clear room on the stage before hitting the mark. Conceicao was 129.6 pounds for his first career title fight, making weight without any additional effort.

Adrian Granados and Jose Luis Sanchez gave the fans all they could ask for in their eight-round war. Except for a winner. A terrific slugfest between Granados and Sanchez ended in an eight-round majority draw as part of a 10-fight card Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Granados managed to win 77-75 on the scorecard of judge Carla Caiz, overruled by scores of 76-76 each turned in by judges Ron Scott Stevens and Edward Hernandez Sr.
