Erickson 'The Hammer' Lubin 17-0 (11 KO's) is a super welterweight rising star. He was named the 2016 prospect of the year on PBC and ESPN after his impressive performances last year.
Undefeated rising star Jarrett Hurd (18-0, 12 KOs) will now match up against former title challenger Jo Jo Dan (35-3, 18 KOs) in a 10-round showdown featured on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike Saturday, Nov. 12 from Temple University's Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.
On Wednesday, it was announced that WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) would make make his first appearance in his native Philadelphia since 2010 as he takes on Colombia's Samuel Vargas (25-2-1, 13 KOs) in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on Spike Saturday, November 12 from Temple University's Liacouras Center.
The WBC ordered a series of fights in the super welterweight division during its annual convention in Kunming, China. We are extremely disappointed by the non-compliance of several boxers who had committed to participate in the process. It has caused delays and disrespect to the process, which was regarded to be very interesting for the boxing world.
Jorge Cota made a promise to himself after his loss to Marco Antonio Rubio to never let another fighter break his spirit. That very will to win allowed the 27-year old from boxing rich Los Mochis, Mexico to score a minor upset, rallying from behind to score a 10-round decision over Yudel Jhonson. It wasn't just a meaningful win, but one in which he will reap immediate benefits. Cota's clash with Jhonson at Full Sail Live on Full Sail University campus in Winter Park, Florida was part of a four-man super welterweight tournament. With the win, he will next fact John Jackson, who decisioned Dennis Laurente earlier on the same show. Both bouts airing live on the inaugural offering of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Bounce TV.
John Jackson is at a similar point in his career as future opponent Jorge Cota—previously defined by their losses rather than what they've accomplished in the sport. Heading into his showdown with Dennis Laurente, the 26-year old was best known as one of the fighting sons of legenday knockout artist Julian Jackson, but in recent times recalled for his one-punch knockout loss to Andy Lee last summer. The storyline not always discussed was the fact that Jackson was dominating the fight to that point, even dropping Lee early before eventually getting caught. Sunday's win over Laurente at Full Sail Live in Winter Park, Florida served as a firm reminder of his full in-ring capabilities.
