Junior welterweight contender Lucas Matthysse (34-3, 32KOs) is planning to return in late May or early April. Matthysse has been out of the ring since losing a twelve round unanimous decision to WBO/WBA champion Danny Garcia last September at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"In late May or early April I could have my first fight back. I still don't know who the opponent will be so we are going to see about that. I'm third in the [WBC] rankings," Matthysse told Diario El Chubut.

Matthysse praised his countryman, WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, for beating Adrien Broner in a huge upset last month at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to the match, Matthysse had often voiced his prediction that he would never get the opportunity to face Broner because Maidana would get the upset win.

"I knew that he was going to beat him. The truth is, it makes me very happy and it is good for boxing, for [Maidana] and for his career. He already beat everyone and he's been breaking his back and he deserves it," Matthysse said.
