Joe Calzaghe made a surprise appearance in Stuttgart, on the heels of his recent election into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. The retired unbeaten former two-division world champion was in town to participate in the weigh-in festivities for Saturday's middleweight title fight between England's Darren Barker and former champ Felix Sturm. Both fighters came in under the 160 lb. middleweight limit. Barker hit the scales at a lean 159 lb., his lightest weight in more than four years. Trainer Enzo Calzaghe says the long debate is finally over. When Joe Calzaghe retired in 2008, Carl Froch was furious and said the Welsh star was scared to give him the opportunity of a big fight. Ezno trained his son to a undefeated tally of 46-0 at the time of retirement, with 32 wins by knockout. After watching Froch struggle against George Groves, Calzaghe thinks his son would have demolished Froch if the pair ever met in the ring.

UK legend Joe Calzaghe feels Nathan Cleverly will get right back in the mix when he moves up to the cruiserweight division against Australia’s Daniel Ammann on November 30 in a challenge for the vacant Commonwealth cruiserweight title. Cleverly is looking to bounce back after suffering the first loss of his career, a TKO defeat to Sergey Kovalev in August. Calzaghe is confident that Cleverly will learn from the loss to Kovalev and look better when he moves up the much heavier weight, a 25-pound leap. Cleverly will have to put on the pounds to compete with fighters who will come in at over 200-pounds on fight night.

LONDON – Undefeated boxing great Joe Calzaghe will kick off ‘Fighting Back’, a hit new series debuting on BoxNation this Friday, ahead of Bernard Hopkins’ world title showdown with German contender Karo Murat. The first instalment of the series features the Welsh pugilist as he looks back over his historical victory over the eternal Hopkins, who became the oldest world champion ever at 48 when he beat Tavoris Cloud for the IBF title last March. The show will go in-depth, providing a never before seen insight into one of British boxing’s most memorable nights, as Calzaghe gives a unique round-by-round breakdown of how he systematically beat the self-styled ‘Executioner’. Heading into the fight in April 2008 many believed Hopkins’ experience and overall ring craft would finally crack the Calzaghe puzzle and add the first loss to his illustrious record. However, despite this, it was the Welshman whose hand was raised at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, winning a closely contested matchup via a split decision.

Carl Froch's top target is Andre Ward as he is determined to avenge a points defeat by the American in 2011. Having beaten Mikkel Kessler on points in May, Froch is keen to make amends for the only other blemish on his record, but British great Joe Calzaghe would back Ward for a repeat win. When asked about a rematch, he said: "Very difficult because I don't think Carl can adapt.

Calzaghe: Groves Has a Chance To Defeat Carl Froch

Joe Calzaghe believes George Groves is capable of conquering Carl Froch if their British battle goes ahead. Froch currently holds the WBA and IBF super-middleweight belts and is willing to face Groves if he becomes a mandatory challenger for one of his titles. The Nottingham man had previously dismissed Groves and James DeGale as possible opponents, claiming he would ruin the unbeaten duo's careers if they met in the ring. Calzaghe insists Froch should not berate his British rivals for calling him out and accused 'The Cobra' of acting in a similar manner when he reigned the division. The Welshman accepts that Groves would be a big outsider against a seasoned champion like Froch, but feels he could spring an upset with the correct game plan. "He would be the underdog I think, but yeah I think he has a chance," Calzaghe told Ringside Toe 2 Toe podcast.

Cleverly: Calzaghe Would Have Boxed Froch's Head Off!

Nathan Cleverly has lashed out at Carl Froch, branding the world super-middleweight champion an "absolute joke" for claiming to be one of the best British boxers in history. Cleverly has made five successful defences of his WBO light-heavyweight title, but he would like a super fight in the United States, or an all-British showdown with Froch to propel his career in to the big time. Cleverly's promoter Frank Warren claimed on Tuesday that Froch had turned down a £2.5million offer to take on his 26-year-old fighter. Warren even says he promised Froch that he would not have had to put his IBF and WBA super-middleweight belts on the line for the fight, for which Cleverly would have to drop down one weight division. Although Cleverly is a world champion, Froch claims he is not good enough to face him in the ring - a claim that has clearly riled the Cefn Fforest fighter. Cleverly accused Froch of being too scared to fight him and also laughed off the Midlander's claim to be the best British boxer of all time along with Lennox Lewis. "I have a lot of respect for Froch, but the idea of him being the self-proclaimed best British fighter ever is an absolute joke," Cleverly said.

Enzo Calzaghe, father and trainer to retired undefeated world champion Joe, appeared on the Boxing Asylum podcast this week to discuss a recent remark made by unified Super Middleweight world champion Carl Froch after his thrilling victory over Mikkel Kessler. “The recognition has been a long time coming, but I'm getting the recognition I deserve now,” Froch told BBC Sport. “In Great Britain, I'm number one. It's between me and Lennox Lewis, depending on how far you are going back.”
