Jesus Ramos will be featured on another pay-per-view event.
BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the unbeaten junior middleweight will next face Spain’s Sergio Garcia. The bout will serve as part of the Showtime Pay-Per-View televised undercard headlined by the Errol Spence-Terence Crawford undisputed welterweight championship July 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The bout will mark the fourth straight appearance in such a capacity for Ramos (20-0, 16KOs), a red-hot contender from Casa Grande, Arizona. This pairing will come just four months after the 22-year-old southpaw tore through Joey Spencer in their battle of unbeaten 154-pound boxers as part of the March 25 David Benavidez-Caleb Plant Showtime PPV card from MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
Ramos was also prominently featured on the Gervonta Davis-Rolando Romero and Keith Thurman-Marios Barrios PPV undercard in his two 2022 appearances.
Garcia (34-2, 14KOs) will seek his first win in the U.S.
His two defeats occurred stateside and on Showtime and Premier Boxing Champions (PBC)-branded events. The 30-year-old from Torrelavega, Spain was outpointed by then-unbeaten Sebastian Fundora and former WBC 154-pound titlist Tony Harrison in back-to-back fights spanning just four months. The loss to Harrison came with the threat of retirement from the sport, though Garcia returned with a ten-round win on April 15 in his Torrelavega hometown.
Ramos is ranked number three by both the WBC and IBF, number seven by the WBO and number ten by the WBA. However, even a win on July 29 won’t necessarily accelerate his title aspirations.
There is a logjam at the contender level in the junior middleweight division, where undisputed champion Jermell Charlo (35-1-1, 19KOs) has outstanding mandatories with all four sanctioning bodies. Two of the contenders in waiting already hold interim titles (Brian Mendoza/WBC, Tim Tszyu/WBO).
Ramos chooses to remain active, as should be the case for a 22-year-old rising contender. His bout versus Garcia is the second confirmed undercard slot. As previously reported by Boxing Scene’s Keith Idec, the evening’s co-feature is a lightweight clash between former title challenger Isaac Cruz (24-2-1, 17KOs) and unbeaten Giovani Cabrera (21-0, 7KOs).
