Jermell Charlo hopes his twin brother gets an opportunity to settle his score with Caleb Plant inside a boxing ring, where the inactive WBC middleweight champion can profit from it.

If Jermall Charlo can’t secure an official fight with Plant, Jermell Charlo suggested during a recent radio appearance that Jermall must make Plant pay for slapping him in the face last month however he can. Footage of Plant’s loud, open-hand slap to Jermall Charlo’s chin went viral immediately after the ceremonial weigh-in for the Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr. welterweight title unification fight July 28 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“They gotta get that one back,” Jermell Charlo told Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy, co-hosts of “The Breakfast Club” on New York’s Power 105.1 FM. “I don’t know what they gonna do. I’m talkin’ my brother team. I don’t know how they goin’ do it. You go do it or hopefully you could do it in the ring. But if you don’t do it in the ring, you better go get your lick back. Like, I don’t know how you wanna do it, just get it back.”

Jermell Charlo chastised his brother and Jermall Charlo’s team for allowing Plant to hit him as well. Jermell Charlo, who will challenge Canelo Alvarez for the Mexican icon’s IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles September 30 in Las Vegas, contended that he never would’ve permitted Plant to do that to him.

“Like who the f--- is around you?,” Jermell Charlo asked. “Your boys supposed to, like my boys ain’t lettin’ that happen. Like I’m not lettin’ that happen. I’m the other twin. I’m the wrong twin. So, I know for a fact that like I’m goin’ to jail. I’m doin’ everything I can. I’m not playin’ that sh!t. You not puttin’ your hands on me. Like outside the ring, like I’m not – man, look, let’s go. Like I’mma go crazy the whole way through. You know what I’m sayin’?”

Jermell Charlo also confirmed during the abovementioned interview that his girlfriend and Jermall Charlo’s wife got into a fight outside of T-Mobile Arena around the same time that Plant slapped his brother. Footage of their altercation also went viral July 28.

“Some people gotta get they ass whupped sometimes,” Jermell Charlo said in reference to his girlfriend’s skirmish with his sister-in-law. When asked if the two women could’ve settled their differences elsewhere, Jermell Charlo replied, “Nah, bro, it was due time. Yeah, it was due time. It was due time.”

Jermell Charlo hasn’t spoken to his brother since their significant others fought.

“Nah, not at all,” Jermell Charlo said. “Like it is what it is. I haven’t spoken to him. My lady and his wife got into a, you know, little battle downstairs, too. So, um, she ran up on her wit’ a slipper in her hand. Like, you know, we train together, me and my lady. We work out, so um, yeah, man.”

Jermell Charlo contended that he tried to de-escalate the disagreement between his brother and Plant, who later revealed that he smacked Jermall Charlo because Charlo grabbed him by the face.

“I was like kinda in the back before it started,” Jermell Charlo said. “And Caleb, I pulled him aside, you know, and I swear to God, right before it happened I said, ‘Hey Caleb, you know, you gotta do one of two things. You know, you gotta just leave the situation.’ I gave Caleb a scenario. I said, ‘Hey, turn the other cheek, bro. You know? Everybody tried to crucify Jesus, talked sh!t about him. You gotta just try to.’ He was like, ‘I ain’t Jesus. I’m Caleb.’ I’m like, ‘Aight.’

“I talked to him before the slap actually happened. Yeah, so I actually was like, ‘Hey, come here, bro.’ We dapped up, talkin’ like, ‘Your brother trippin’.’ I’m like, ‘Some people, bro, you just gotta let them.’ You know, I coulda seen my brother spazzin’ out a little bit, gettin’ mad and sh!t. And I didn’t think that would [escalate] after we leave. I didn’t think it would go that far. I thought Caleb kinda like humbled himself down a little bit, like, ‘F--- this guy. I’m not gonna [do anything].’ ”

Surrounded by security personnel, Jermall Charlo and members of his entourage followed Plant outside after the slap. Jermell Charlo wasn’t among those that pursued Plant.

“I ain’t involved in that one,” Jermell Charlo said. “That wasn’t my battle to fight. I got big fish – let’s not say fish. We ain’t gonna talk about [fish]. I got a big fight to happen. You know what I’m sayin’? Yeah, so I ain’t gonna mess up my bag.”

Jermell Charlo is fully focused on moving up two weight classes to battle Alvarez in their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event next month. It didn’t sound, though, like his family will spend time with his brother’s family once he returns to the Houston area from the biggest fight of his career or during the holiday season.

“We ain’t gonna be around each other,” Jermell Charlo said. “Nah. We don’t forget. We forgive, but we don’t forget.”
