CRIS ESQUEDA / GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONSRecent super-middleweight champion Armando Resendiz has been called upon to replace injured ex-two-division champion Jermall Charlo on the main card of the October 17 Premier Boxing Champions show at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Charlo’s undisclosed injury extends his absence from the ring since a May 2025 triumph over Thomas LaManna. The former 154lbs and middleweight champion was set to test his 34-0 with 23 KOs record in a super-middleweight bout versus Koen Mazoudier, 16-4-1 (6 KOs), of Australia.
Now, Mexico’s Resendiz, 16-3 (11 KOs), returns to the ring following his May WBA title loss to countryman Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision.
DAZN and TNT will broadcast the bout in the latest episode of the new monthly series “The Fight.”
“I’m hungry for a world title shot and I know I have to earn it,” Resendiz said in a prepared statement. “Fighting in Las Vegas… means a lot to me and my family. Mazoudier is coming to win and my back is against the wall, so I’ve been pushing myself every day in camp. I want to make everyone who’s stood by me proud. I’m going to let my hands go and give everything I have. The fans can count on that.”
The card is headlined by Sebastian Fundora’s WBC 154lbs title defense versus Ermal Hadribeaj and also includes WBA featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa defending his belt for the first time against former world champion Tomoki Kameda.
