WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (29-0, 14 KOs) is hoping to set up a unification encounter this coming Saturday night.

Charlo will be in action as part of a Showtime televised junior middleweight tripleheader, where two other world champions will defend their belts. The even takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

For Charlo, he will defend his world title against undefeated mandatory challenger Erickson "Hammer" Lubin (18-0, 13 KOs).

Also on the card, "Swift" Jarrett Hurd (20-0, 14 KOs) will make his first title defense of the IBF championship against tough former world champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout (30-3, 17 KOs).

The event is headlined by WBA, IBO world champion Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs) taking on undefeated 2012 U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha (20-0, 9 KOs).

If Charlo wins, he wants to have a unification fight lined up - and he's hoping Hurd can prevail in his defense and become the opponent.

"If Jarrett Hurd gets by Austin Trout, I definitely would fight him next. Unification is on my mind and I think that would be a fight a lot of people would want to see. We'll see who is able to come out on top when we're all in the ring," Charlo said.

Hurd believes Charlo will have his hands full with the undefeated Lubin, who was a top amateur destined to be part of the Olympic team, but decided to turn ro instead.

He believes Charlo will come out on top, in what Hurd expects to be a very close contest.

"Charlo vs. Lubin is really a 50-50 fight. Lubin is the faster and sharper fighter, but Charlo is more mature. I would have to lean towards Charlo on this one because he's been on this stage and been in title fights before. We don't really know what Lubin can do yet so I give Charlo the slight edge but it's really close," Hurd said.
