Jelena Mrdjenovich: record, next fight and profile →

Though sanctioning bodies can at times be rightly criticized, the WBC’s conference aimed at helping, educating, and informing those involved in women’s boxing.

Former women’s titleholder Jelena Mrdjenovich was recently asked by Tyson Fury to be in his camp because of her work ethic. “I always challenge the boys in the gym,” she said.

Jelena Mrdjenovich found her way back to the win column but had to sweat out a majority decision. The former two-division titlist used a superior work rate to barely edge Colombia’s Calista Silgado over ten rounds. Scores of 96-94 and 97-93 overruled a 95-95 tally to provide Mrdjenovich with her first victory in more than two years in their DAZN co-feature Thursday evening from Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Manuel Flores is set for another home game. This occasion will come in the first scheduled ten-round bout as well as his first televised headliner. Flores tipped the scales at 119.6 pounds for his bantamweight clash versus Phoenix’s Walter Santibanes, who was 118.8 pounds for their Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN main event Thursday evening from Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

The pride of the Coachella Valley, Manuel “Gucci Manny” Flores (15-0, 11 KOs), will headline his first-ever Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN card on Thursday, June 8 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

Erika Cruz proved under no uncertain circumstances that her title win was no fluke. The 32-year-old southpaw from Mexico City claimed a repeat win over Jelena Mrdjenovich, soundly outpointing the former two-division champ over ten rounds. All three judges scored the contest 100-90 in favor of Cruz, who successfully defended her WBA featherweight title in their DAZN co-feature Saturday evening at Centro de Usos Multiples in Hermosillo, Mexico.
