Jason Sanchez: record, next fight and profile →
Jason Sanchez had never been stopped through 20 pro fights that included a reigning titlist and two former title challengers. Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington needed just six minutes to change that statistic.
Robeisy Ramirez is set for the first career fight in the state from which he sought freedom. The 29-year-old southpaw was a rock solid 125.6 pounds for WBO featherweight title defense versus Guadalajara’s Rafael Espinoza in their ESPN-televised main event. Espinoza effortlessly packed 125.3 pounds across his 6’1” frame for his first career title fight, which takes place this Saturday from Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Zelfa Barrett rebounded from a title fight defeat with lopsided points win. A fifth-round knockdown by Barrett was part of a dominant showing in a twelve-round, unanimous decision victory over Jason Sanchez. Scores were 119-108, 118-110 and 116-111 for Barrett in their DAZN-aired battle of former title challengers Saturday evening from Cardiff International Arena in Cardiff, Wales.
Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov and Joe Cordina are set for their rescheduled title fight. The roles are swapped from when they were due to meet last fall, with Rakhimov in possession of the IBF junior lightweight title previously held by Cordina. Both boxers made weight for their scheduled 12-round bout atop a DAZN show this Saturday from Cardiff International Arena in Cardiff, Wales. Rakhimov—a Tajikistan native who trains out of Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California—was 129.4 pounds (129 pounds, 7 ounces) as he attempts his first title defense. Cardiff’s own Cordina was 129 ¾ pounds in his bid to become a two-time IBF titlist.
Adam Lopez rode a second half surge to pick up his latest win. The rugged featherweight outlasted Jason Sanchez in picking up a 10-round majority decision win Saturday evening at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
It was sparring day for Adam Lopez on February 3. A little over a week out from his Saturday bout against Jason Sanchez, his first trip to the ring since June of last year, you might expect the 24-year-old to have a few nerves. Not about fighting, because he’s been doing that much of his life, but maybe getting cut, turning an ankle, that type of thing.
The show goes on in Las Vegas. Richard Commey and Jackson Mariñez take the lead on Top Rank’s first card of 2021, which takes place Saturday evening, live on ESPN beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT from MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
Featherweight action star Adam “BluNose” Lopez and Jason “El Alacrancito” Sanchez are ready for a phone booth battle. Lopez will defend his NABF belt in a 10-rounder against Sanchez Saturday, Feb. 13, on the undercard of the vacant WBO light heavyweight world title bout between Joe Smith Jr. and Maxim Vlasov at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Featherweight prospect Adam Lopez will face former world title challenger Jason Sanchez on February 13, a source told BoxingScene over the weekend. The 10-round bout will take place at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and will air on an ESPN platform, whether opening the live ESPN telecast (10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT) or ESPN+. The Lopez-Sanchez fight will precede the main event bout between light heavyweight contenders Joe Smith and Maxim Vlasov, with the vacant WBO world title on the line, and the lightweight bout between former IBF lightweight titleholder Richard Commey and once-beaten Jackson Marinez.
ESPN televised a much more compelling main event Tuesday night, but viewership was only slightly higher than it was for its previous boxing broadcast on a weeknight. Nielsen Media Research revealed Wednesday that the network’s three-hour, 31-minute telecast Tuesday night was watched by an average of 310,000 viewers. The peak audience of 390,000 tuned in toward the conclusion of the main event, Joshua Franco’s upset of Andrew Moloney in their 12-round, 115-pound title fight at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
