LAS VEGAS – Jaron Ennis eliminated any doubt Saturday night as to the identity of the best young boxer in the world.

The electrifying Ennis didn’t even need one round to annihilate veteran welterweight Thomas Dulorme in their scheduled 10-round fight at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena. Philadelphia’s Ennis (28-0, 26 KOs, 1 NC) dropped Dulorme twice and knocked out the native Puerto Rican in just one minute and 49 seconds in the second of three fights Showtime televised.

The 24-year-old Ennis first floored Dulorme (25-6-1, 16 KOs) after landing a right hand near his left ear barely a minute into their fight. That shot sent a stunned Dulorme to his gloves and knees.

A determined Dulorme answered referee Mike Ortega’s count at seven and tried to fight out of that trouble. He landed a right hand in an exchange when the action resumed, but Ennis ended their fight emphatically with a right hook and a straight left that knocked Dulorme flat on his back.

Ortega waved an end to their short fight once Dulorme went down a second time.

Ennis’ methodical rise in a welterweight division on notice continued with his demolition of a credible opponent who hadn’t been stopped inside the distance this quickly during his 13-year pro career.

Terence Crawford stopped Dulorme in the sixth round of their WBO junior welterweight title fight in April 2015 in Arlington, Texas. Luis Carlos Abregu beat Dulorme by seventh-round TKO in their October 2012 bout in Verona, New York.

In his previous bout, the 31-year-old Dulorme tested another young, unbeaten welterweight, Eimantas Stanionis. Lithuania’s Stanionis (13-0, 9 KOs, 1 NC) won their 12-round bout by unanimous decision April 10 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Ennis, meanwhile, still hasn’t boxed beyond the sixth round since he made his pro debut in April 2016.
