Jared Anderson annihilated Miljan Rovcanin on Saturday night.

The hard-hitting heavyweight prospect knocked out the Serbian veteran with a right hand late in the second round of an eight-round bout ESPN televised from Tulsa, Oklahoma. That shot knocked Rovcanin flat on his back and he didn’t try to get up before referee Mark Nelson counted to 10.

The 23-year-old Anderson (12-0, 12 KOs), who kept his knockout streak intact, ended an eight-month layoff that was caused by a hand injury. That setback caused the Toledo, Ohio native to withdraw from a fight against Germany’s Christian Hammer (27-10, 17 KOs) on the Tyson Fury-Dillian Whyte undercard April 23 at Wembley Stadium in London.

The 6-foot-4, 241-pound Anderson, who was listed as a 60-1 favorite, fought for the first time since he stopped Ukraine’s Oleksandr Teslenko (17-2, 13 KOs) in the second round December 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Anderson also halted Rovcanin’s five-fight winning streak. Rovcanin hadn’t lost since Germany’s Agit Kabayel (22-0, 14 KOs) beat him by third-round technical knockout in April 2018.

Rovcanin’s lone previous loss was a 10th-round disqualification defeat to Alexander Dimitrenko (then 40-3) in December 2017.

On Saturday night, Anderson nailed Rovcanin with a left hook to the body when there were just over 20 seconds to go in the second round. That set up his knockout shot soon thereafter.

Anderson hit Rovcanin when Nelson called for a break and knocked out his mouthpiece with just over two minutes on the clock in the second round. Nelson warned Anderson for that foul after Rovcanin’s trainer cleaned off and reinserted his mouthpiece.

Rovcanin caught Anderson with a left hand was Anderson moved forward with just under 30 seconds to go in the opening round. Anderson and Rovcanin traded left hooks in an exchange with just under two minutes remaining in the first round.
