Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall went head to head for the first time as they met at their launch press conference in Scotland on Tuesday. Unbeaten fighters collide as undisputed super-lightweight champion Taylor (18-0, 13 KOs) meets Catterall (26-0, 13 KOs) at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on February 26, live on Sky Sports.

Josh Taylor was looking forward to his first fight in his home country in more than two years. That moment will now have to wait at least two more months. A knee injury suffered during training camp has forced the undisputed junior welterweight champion to postpone his mandatory title defense versus Jack Catterall, promoter Top Rank announced Thursday. The bout was due to take place December 18 at The OVO Hydro in Glasgow, with the same venue now prepared to host the event next February 26.

By Tris Dixon - Jack Catterall waited for the phone to ring. And he waited and waited. The WBO’s mandatory challenger for the super-lightweight title held by undisputed king Josh Taylor has been in line to face the super Scot for months.

Josh Taylor does not see why he needs to give up his lofty perch in the 140-pound division anytime soon – or ever, for that matter. The undisputed junior welterweight champion from Scotland may have accomplished all that can be done in his current weight class, but that does not mean he is necessarily looking to leave it permanently.

Josh Taylor says he wants to move up to welterweight one day but still believes he has plenty still to do at super-lightweight. Taylor makes the first defense of his undisputed world super-lightweight title at the Hydro in Glasgow on December 18 against Jack Catterall. But while he talks about going up to welterweight to face Terence Crawford or Yordenis Ugas, he might not move up for good.

Josh Taylor will defend his undisputed world super-lightweight title against Jack Catterall in Glasgow on December 18 in one of the highlights of the new Sky Sports boxing schedule unveiled today. Taylor and Anthony Joshua were the biggest two names revealed in the new-look Sky schedule, the first since the departure of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom group from the broadcaster.

It will be tough for Josh Taylor’s year to get any better than when he claimed the undisputed junior welterweight championship. A homecoming for his next title defense will at least rate as a very close second.
