WBO super bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe (19-0, 13 KOs) is looking to capture more world titles in the coming future. Philadelphia, PA - In what was a back and forth contest this past weekend inside the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Isaac Dogboe from Ghana (19-0, 13 KOs) stopped Jessie Magdaleno of Las Vegas (25-1, 18 KOs) in the 11th round.
The ratings for FOX’s boxing tripleheader Saturday night were notably lower than those from the network’s previous boxing offering on free TV. Premier Boxing Champions’ three-fight FOX broadcast Saturday night – headlined by Josesito Lopez’s 10-round, unanimous-decision win against previously unbeaten welterweight prospect Miguel Cruz – was watched by an average of 839,000 viewers, according to ratings released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. The average audience for FOX’s telecast February 17, which featured a 12-round draw between former welterweight champions Devon Alexander and Victor Ortiz, was 1,136,000.
Philadelphia, PA - Isaac Dogboe (19-0, 13 KOs) scored an upset victory this past weekend over Jessie Magdaleno (25-1, 18 KOs). Although he was a 2 to 1 and in some places 3 to 1 betting underdog, Dogboe recovered from a first round knockdown to drop Magdaleno once in the fifth round and twice in the 11th to earn a stoppage victory. With that victory he became the WBO junior featherweight champion.
Azumah Nelson, considered to be Africa's greatest ever boxer, has congratulated new WBO World Super-Bantamweight Champion Isaac Dogboe. On Saturday night, 'Royal Storm' recovered from a first round knockdown to put Jessie Magdaleno down three times before an 11th round stoppage.
Issac Dogboe: Sometimes a fighter just needs an opportunity. Jessie Magdaleno, then the WBO junior featherweight titleholder, was scheduled to fight mandatory challenger Cesar Juarez in November but had to pull out because of an injured hand. Juarez then traveled to Ghana to face unbeaten – and largely unknown – Issac Dogboe for the interim WBO title while Magdaleno’s hand healed.
In a division that has produced enduring classics like Wilfredo Gomez-Lupe Pintor, Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales, and the first three Vazquez-Marquez wars, the standard for excellence is high. Very few fights can get there. It’s enough to be the latest excellent battle in one of boxing’s premiere warrior classes. No one can say they didn’t see warriors on Saturday night. Isaac Dogboe and Jessie Magdaleno traded knockdowns, momentum, and ultimately a title before the night was through. The judges were on their game too; while this scribe picked Magdaleno on a possibly contentious decision, all three official scorers had Dogboe ahead prior to the fateful eleventh.
