Isaac Cruz Gonzalez: record, next fight and profile →
Rolando 'Rolly' Romero has a considerably different view on the fallout in a previously targeted clash with Ryan Garcia. The reigning WBA junior welterweight titlist has taken exception to the claim made by Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, that Romero priced himself out of the attractive matchup. That excuse was provided by the Hall of Fame
MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons, who promotes tough Mexican boxer Isaac Cruz, believes his fighter should get the next crack at junior welterweight star Ryan Garcia.
Isaac Cruz has given up on his years-long pursuit of a rematch with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. For now. The popular lightweight from Mexico City has a new target in his sights. Actually an old one, as Cruz hopes to unearth past business with Ryan Garcia.
Fighting at 135 pounds was only supposed to be a temporary thing. Chris Colbert wanted to prove that his loss to Hector Luis Garcia was nothing more than a fluky night, something that would never happen again.
Isaac Cruz isn’t letting up. Roughly two years ago, the 25-year-old was given an opportunity of a lifetime. With Rolando "Rolly" Romero being forced to withdraw from his December of 2021 showdown against Gervonta Davis, Cruz was arbitrarily given the call. Although it was unexpected, he happily accepted.
The team surrounding Isaac Cruz continues its ‘Pitbull’ approach to land a lucrative rematch. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has yet to reveal plans for his next fight, other than to recently confirm that he was done for the rest of the year and eyes a January 2024 ring return. An opponent is not attached to his ring return, which has left the door open for Mexico City’s Cruz to throw his hat in the ring to run it back with the sport’s leading box-office attraction and reigning secondary WBA lightweight titlist.
He doesn’t fight often, but the current hiatus that Gary Russell Jr. is on far exceeds his meager ring appearances. The now 35-year-old was a proud WBC featherweight champion. If not for a freak injury to his right shoulder during his title defense against Mark Magsayo in 2021, he believes that his championship status would be unchanged.
Gervonta Davis hasn’t fought three times in a calendar year since 2019. But while his schedule often restricts him to just one or two appearances, 2023 could be a different story.
