Isaac Cruz Gonzalez: record, next fight and profile →
AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas - Lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz proved his impressive performance against three-division champion Gervonta Davis last December wasn’t a fluke. In a dominant, knockdown-filled performance, Cruz dropped the proud former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa four times en route to a dominant fifth-round stoppage of Gamboa in the co-main event.
ARLINGTON, Texas – Mark Calo-oy eventually had to save Yuriorkis Gamboa from himself Saturday night. The veteran referee understandably stopped Gamboa’s dangerously one-sided bout against Isaac Cruz once the Mexican lightweight contender dropped Gamboa for the fourth time in as many rounds on the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard at AT&T Stadium. Calo-oy stepped between them and wrapped his arms around Gamboa after he fell into the ropes following Cruz’s vicious left-right combination in the fifth round.

The commendable performance that invigorated Isaac Cruz’s career still makes him think about what he could’ve done better. The Mexican lightweight contender is proud of how he pushed Gervonta Davis the night of December 5 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. He just wishes he had been even more aggressive against Davis, who was forced to fight off of his back foot more than usual during their highly competitive, 12-round, 135-pound championship clash.
Ryan Garcia has pressed pause on his own vow to no longer call out divisional rivals. The unbeaten lightweight contender is an interested observer for Saturday’s bout between Mexico City’s Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Miami’s Yuriorkis Gamboa. The bout—which is part of a Showtime Pay-Per-View event from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas—comes one week after Garcia returned following a 15-month ring absence, outpointing Ghana’s Emmanuel Tagoe over twelve rounds atop an April 9 DAZN show from Alamodome in San Antonio.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Errol Spence Jr. and Yordenis Ugas comfortably made weight Friday morning for their welterweight title unification fight Saturday night.
Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz is ready for his commitment this Saturday, in Arlington, Texas. “Pitbull” Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KO's) will face a Cuban boxing legend, former world champion and Olympic gold medalist, Yuriorkis “Ciclón de Guantánmo” Gamboa (30-4, 18 KO's) in a 10-round lightweight duel at Dallas Cowboys stadium.
Rolando Romero wasn’t impressed by Gervonta Davis’ performance in his last fight. Davis’ upcoming opponent still doesn’t think the unbeaten WBA world lightweight champion came close to losing to Isaac Cruz. Romero (14-0, 12 KOs), who will challenge Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) on May 28 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, believes Davis did enough during their 12-round, 135-pound championship match to win comfortably.
Yuriorkis Gamboa believes beating Isaac Cruz will land him the fight he really wants. The Cuban veteran is still bothered by his 12th-round, technical-knockout defeat to Gervonta Davis in December 2019. In the 40-year-old Gamboa’s mind, a victory over Cruz, who tested the undefeated Davis in their 12-rounder December 5 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, would warrant a rematch with the WBA world lightweight champion in Gamboa’s following fight.
