The normally intimidating aura of Gervonta Davis did nothing to unnerve Isaac Cruz. Although the powerful southpaw would eke out a close unanimous decision victory against the Mexican product during their December of 2021 showdown, the 24-year-old Cruz has done his best to lure him back into the ring.
Just moments before Cruz sauntered through the ropes at the Crypto.com Arena to take on Eduardo Ramirez this past weekend, Davis nestled comfortably into his ringside seat. Seemingly invigorated by his presence, Cruz violently ended the night of his man in the second round.
Without delay, Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) immediately turned his attention toward Davis, urging him to run things back as soon as possible.
“We want the rematch with Gervonta Davis,” said a fired-up Cruz after his quick stoppage win.
An ostensibly enthused Davis smiled as Cruz continued his audacious callouts. While the current WBA “Regular” lightweight belt holder hasn’t made any decisions regarding his next opponent, he did reveal that he would be willing to give Cruz one more chance. If, however, and only if, a considerable amount of money was deposited into his bank account.
“If the money right,” said Davis to LalosBoxing when asked if he’ll grant Cruz’s rematch wish.
Since registering the win against Cruz, Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) made a successful return to the ring roughly six months later. A record crowd piled into Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on May 28th, to witness Davis secure yet another victory, this time against Rolando Romero.
Most recently, Davis dropped an unambiguous clue as to when fans can expect to see him next.
“December,” said Davis on his verified Twitter account.
While Davis is still sifting through options for his next possible opponent, Ryan Garcia, his longtime rival, has continually raised his hand in an effort to gain his attention.
Still, regardless of Garcia’s verbal jabs and attempts to get his paws on Davis, Cruz believes that he should be next in line for the Baltimore native.
