Shawana Bundrage, wife and manager of former Cornelius ‘K-9’ Bundrage, has informed BoxingScene.com that the International Boxing Federation has denied an exception request, from promoter Leon Margules and adviser Al Haymon, which seeks permission to have IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina make a voluntary defense against Jermall Charlo.
Molina (22-5-2, 6KOs) was scheduled to face Charlo in March, as part of the Canelo-Angulo Showtime Pay-Per-View undercard, but several days before the fight Molina was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to register as a sex offender in Wisconsin, and then after spending several weeks in jail he was forced to return to Mexico due to a visa issue.
Molina was planning to fight in July. He now has to place Charlo (18-0, 14KOs) to the side, and has to face Bundrage (33-5, 19 KOs) by the end of September.
