Robert Diaz knows a thing or two about boxing.

When Diaz speaks, he does so with several years of experience as a trainer and matchmaker.

Diaz believes tonight’s clash between Kenia Enriquez and Ibeth Zamora will not only produce fireworks, but is confident will be able to grind out a decision win.

Enriquez and Zamora will collide tonight for the interim WBC world Female flyweight title belt at The Arena in La Paz, Mexico. The 10-round bout will stream live on Imagen TV and Caliente.mx (11 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. PT).

Diaz recently served as Golden Boy Promotions’ matchmaker until his contract was not renewed at the start of 2023. Diaz is still very much involved in the sport, from attending fight cards or press conferences. He has recently begun advising fighters, including Zamora.

As a fan, Diaz believes tonight’s clash is a can’t miss as both will come to the ring with nothing to lose and everything to gain, including a shot at the WBC world title belt.

“It’s a great honor to work with someone like Ibeth Zamora,” Diaz told BoxingScene Friday afternoon. “I want to thank TM Boxing, Imagen TV, Kenia Enriquez, and her team. I want to thank the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman for this great opportunity. This is the fight the fans don’t want to miss. You have two talented young ladies who are willing to give it all that are hungry (and) that want to become champions. There is no ‘A’ side or ‘B’ side here. I think they’re going to leave it all in the ring so I think the fans do not want to miss (it).

“The 112-pound division is packed. The fans need to start recognizing Marlen Esparza, Arely Mucino, Ibeth, Kenia, (Gabriela) Celeste (Alaniz). You have so much talent in that division and you have two of the best fighters. You have No. 1 and No. 2 fighting for the interim WBC world title. It’s going to be a war. Their styles will clash and mix up well.”

The 34-year-old Zamora (33-7, 13 KOs), who resides in San Cristobal Huichochitlan, Mexico, last fought on October 29, stopping Jessica Martinez Castillo in the fourth round. She lost the WBC title to Esparza in June 2019.

Zamora is also a WBC world Female junior flyweight titleholder.

Enriquez (26-1, 11 KOs), who resides in Tijuana, Mexico, defeated Araceli Palacios Figueroa by unanimous decision in her last fight on June 3. The 29-year-old has won her last 13 fights since suffering her only defeat as a pro in February 2015, a split-decision loss to Melissa McMorrow.

Both fighters come forward and throw an abundance of punches, which could produce an action fights. Diaz is confident Zamora has the right intangibles to excel and be victorious.

“Ibeth is coming with everything to regain her title and go on to look for the bigger fights,” said Diaz. “It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be a very tough fight. I’m very confident (that) her experience, her condition, and her talent (that) she will have her arm raised.”

In the co-feature, junior middleweight prospect Isaac Lucero (13-0, 9 KOs), who is originally from La Paz and now lives and trains in Tijuana, will face Eduardo Leonel Rodriguez (11-3-1, 5 KOs) of Aguascalientes, Mexico in a 10-round bout.
