Hiroto Kyoguchi, a former strawweight and junior flyweight titleholder from Osaka, Japan, has announced his retirement after a nine-year professional career.

WBO flyweight champion Anthony Olascuaga might have dodged a bullet in the form of a rejuvenated Hiroto Kyoguchi, whom he outscored over 12 rounds in Tokyo.

Both Kenshiro Teraji and Seigo Yuri Akui made weight before their flyweight unification clash in Tokyo on Thursday.

Sometimes, we don’t get a great fight. Instead, we get the sort of singular performance that separates one foe from another in a way that drops jaws. Roy Jones-James Toney, Bernard Hopkins-Felix Trinidad, Floyd Mayweather-Diego Corrales, and Tyson Fury-Deontay

Kenshiro Teraji has once again firmly established himself as the class of the junior flyweight division. Two knockdowns paved the way for Teraji to stop countryman Hiroto Kyoguchi in the seventh-round of a rare unification bout between reigning titlists from Japan. Teraji floored Kyoguchi in rounds five and seven, the latter producing a stoppage at 2:36 of round seven to defend his WBC junior flyweight title and claim the WBA belt in their ESPN+/DAZN/Amazon Prime-Japan/ESPN Knockout main eventTuesday evening (local time) at Super Arena in Saitama, Japan

There hasn’t been a lineal Jr. flyweight champion since Giovanni Segura vacated the crown in 2011. Barring a draw, someone is going to change that on Tuesday in Saitama, Japan (ESPN+, 4:30 AM EST).

Hiroto Kyoguchi has waited so long for the chance to fight countryman Kenshiro Teraji that the novelty has almost worn off. Almost. The pair of junior flyweight titlists collide in their highly anticipated WBC/WBA unification bout this Tuesday at Saitama

Kenshiro Teraji understood the importance of regaining his WBC junior flyweight title. It meant avenging his lone career defeat, which he did so in emphatic fashion with a third-round knockout of Masamichi Yabuki earlier this year. Of at least equal importance to the 30-year-old from Kyoto, Japan was putting back in play the possibility of a long-desired title unification bout with countryman Hiroto Kyoguchi.

Hiroto Kyoguchi and Kenshiro Teraji both weighed comfortably within the junior flyweight limit in their battle for divisional supremacy.

By Cliff Rold - One of the best fights of 2022 is just days away. Next Tuesday, arguably the two best Jr. flyweights in the world will lock horns in Saitama, Japan (ESPN+. 4:30 AM EST). 30-year old two-time WBC titlist Kenshiro Teraji (19-1, 11 KO) and 28-year old Ring Magazine/WBA titlist Hiroto Kyoguchi (16-0, 11 KO) has felt like a natural clash for a few years. A stunning upset of Teraji last September left the potential clash uncertain but correction was swift.
