Hearn Warns That Tyson-Jones Could Be "An Absolute Disaster"

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes the upcoming clash between former world champions Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. could be a recipe for disaster.

Tyson, 54-years-old, and Jones, 51-years-old, will collide in the ring on September 12 in an eight round exhibition fight.

Tyson will return to the ring for the first time in fifteen years, in a contest being overseen by the California State Athletic Commission.

The fight will be distributed on pay-per-view, with a price tag of $50.

Those buying the PPV could become very upset if the contest is unexpectedly stopped as the action heats up.

The CSAC has already warned that neither boxer should enter the ring looking for a knockout. They want the fight to be nothing more than a competitive spar.

"The Commission has said they can’t [go for a knockout]. Can you imagine? Tyson comes out and goes for [a knockout] and the commissioner [waves] if off. That’s an absolute disaster," Hearn told Boxing Social.

"I’m never comfortable with an exhibition bout? Because what are you getting, what are you actually paying for? This shouldn’t happen, but I’d rather they went at it hammer and tong. I’d buy that. I don’t think it’s ethically right or good for boxing but I would probably buy that. I don’t think you’re going to buy an exhibition.

"What are they going to do? Mess around after a round or do an interview mid-round? Sky got approached [to air it]. They spoke to me about it. I’m not saying they won’t take it. You could be a round or two in going 'Oh my God, what is this?' I would rather they went in and tried to take each other’s head off. Like I said, ethically, that wouldn’t be right either but I’d prefer that."

I kinda agree with Fast Eddie and I usually don’t. I much rather pay to see a regular 8 round fight with no 3 knockdown rule, can’t be saved by the bell. I guess I’m barbaric looking for pain and…
If you were promoting it Eddie it would be the greatest event ever right? GTFOH....
Hearn said it would be a real event without the exhibition label so therefore why would he promote something he doesn’t believe in ?
