Hamzah Sheeraz is expected to return from injury in June before a ‘very significant fight’ before the end of the year.
The middleweight contender has not boxed since he stopped River Wilson-Bent in two rounds in November due to surgery on his hand.
But his promoter Frank Warren says Sheeraz will get back into full training after Ramadan with a headline slot in June likely for the current Commonwealth middleweight champion.
Warren said: “He had an operation on his hand and I just want to get him back in the swing in June. He will headline there and I’m looking to get him a significant fight by the end of the year.”
Denzel Bentley defends his British middleweight title against Kieran Smith at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday night and the British Boxing Board of Control will call the winner to face Sheeraz next.
Bentley is returning to the ring for the first time since he was outpointed by WBO champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in Las Vegas in November.
Warren said: “We’d do the Denzel Bentley fight in a heartbeat but, I mean no disrespect to the British title, but he’s just fought for the world title and gave a very good account of himself. That fight is above that level.
“My big thing with all the fighters is not what route but what is available now and what is a good move to make.
“We also promote Denzel so for me that’s a good fight on paper.”
