London’s George Groves will meet newly minuted WBC super middleweight titlist Badou Jack on August 22 in Las Vegas. News of the date was revealed on Wednesday via social media by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.
Joe Calzaghe wants to see James DeGale and George Groves fight again - in a world title unification showdown. The former super-middleweight king believes the bitter rivals' rematch could be a box office attraction, as long as they both have world titles. DeGale is the IBF champion while Groves takes on Badou Jack for the WBC version in the autumn, possibly on Floyd Mayweather's next undercard in September. And Calzaghe, who says he would have "demolished" Carl Froch had they met, wants to see two more bitter rivals do it again. They first fought in May 2011, with Groves clinching a majority decision victory over the Olympic gold medallist.
James DeGale says he is hoping to gain revenge over George Groves in a possible world super-middleweight IBF/WBC unification title fight early next year. DeGale, 29, impressively won the IBF belt after a unanimous points victory over home favourite Andre Dirrell in Boston on Saturday night, to become the first British Olympic gold medallist to claim a professional world title. He is now keen to quickly avenge two defeats to his fellow Londoner Groves, one in the amateurs and one as a pro, but insisted it was all dependent on his compatriot beating WBC champion Badou Jack, who took his belt from Dirrell's brother Anthony in Chicago last month.
Newly crowned WBC super middleweight champion of the world, Badou Jack (19-1-1), returned home to Stockholm, Sweden, last week and got a hero´s welcome and since then been seen just about everywhere. Badou was a very good amateur, for example a 5-time Swedish champion, but when he represented his father´s home country of Gambia in the 08 Olympics and then turned pro - he kind of left the radar. The main Swedish media wasn't concerned with his career and it wasn´t until the morning after the title win over Anthony Dirrell when Badou hit the headlines back home for the first time in his career.
