As BoxingScene.com previously reported, WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs) could potentially make his UK debut by the end of the year.

Golovkin visited London last week, along with his promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, and there were some meetings and discussions to have GGG fight on British soil.

For his next fight, Golovkin is slated to return on April 23rd in either New York, Texas or Los Angeles. If Golovkin wins, he would then come back in September, potentially in a unification against WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Some of the options Loeffler is considering for a UK showdown include - WBA mandatory challenger (to the regular title) Chris Eubank Jr., WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, and IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale.

In order to face DeGale, Golovkin would have to move up to the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.

If Golovkin moves up to 168 and beats DeGale (22-1, 14KOs) - Loeffler makes it clear that he won't remain at super middleweight. Golovkin would vacate the IBF title and return to 160 to pursue his goal of unifying the entire division.

"If Gennady goes up in weight to 168-pounds and beats DeGale, he's not going to keep the 168-pounds title. He'd go back down to middleweight. Sure, it's been discussed, that's something that's interesting on our side, too. If the timing is right, if DeGale makes another couple of defenses, that fight could be out there by the end of 2016. eGale seems to be the type of fighter who isn't afraid to get in the ring, that's the impression I have," Loeffler told Sky Sports.

DeGale, an Olympic gold medal winner, has a mandatory defense due against Jose Uzcategui.

It's not clear if boxing politics would be an issue. DeGale is advised by Al Haymon, while Golovkin is an HBO fighter. Very little business has taken place between HBO and Haymon in the last few years. Haymon has become their competitor after starting his Premier Boxing Champions series, which is aligned with HBO's network rival Showtime - and is also viewed on FOX, ESPN, ABC, NBC, CBS, CBS Sports, Spike TV, Bounce TV and NBC Sports.
