While appearing on Buncy's Boxing Hour, promoter Frank Warren revealed that WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12KOs) is going to make the first defense of his title in the coming months and then have a huge summer headliner in what is going to be a big promotion.

Warren plans to name the date and his next opponent in a day's time once everything is finalized. Saunders captured the title last month with a twelve round majority decision over Andy Lee. Saunders dropped Lee twice in the contest.

“We’ll name his opponent and date but he will have a mega fight in the summer,” Warren said.

Warren said a possible unification with WBA/IBO/IBF champion Gennady Golovkin will not happen on April 23rd. Warren and Saunders received an offer to face Golovkin on the April date at New York's Madison Square Garden.  They are going in another direction.

Based on the comments made by Saunders in several interviews, he wasn't completely satisfied with the financial terms of the package. Saunders and Warren had stated in interviews (prior to the Lee victory) that a Golovkin fight was something that was better suited for 2017.

“It won’t be Golovkin in April, that’s the date we were offered. For me, it’s a football stadium type fight. Not saying we don’t want the fight, Bill wants to do it but it needs to make sense,” revealed Warren. “It’s about making the fight on the right terms and more importantly at the right time,” Warren said.
