Glenn Foot: record, next fight and profile →
Manchester Arena (formerly M.E.N Arena), Manchester, Lancashire - Light heavyweight Hosea Burton (13-0, 6KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Nathan King (14-27). Middleweight prospect Marcus Morrison (6-0, 4KOs) won a four round decision, with a score of 40-35, over Laszlo Fazekas (25-20-1). Liam Taylor (12-1, 4KOs) won a four round decision over Mark McKray (6-29) in a super lightweight contest.
The eight fighters involved in title action on Eddie Hearn’s “High Stakes” bill at the Manchester Arena all hit the scales and their weight targets during today’s weigh-in. Bury’s Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22 early) came in at 8st 9lbs 12oz for his WBA World Super bantamweight defence against former IBF titlist Kiko Martinez (32-5, 24 KOs). Spain’s Martinez weighed 8st 9lbs 10oz for his latest title crack.
Sam Eggington has predicted his British and Commonwealth Welterweight clash with Glenn Foot will be an all-out war at the Manchester Arena on July 18, live on Sky Sports. Eggington puts his Commonwealth strap on the line for the first time with the vacant British belt also up for grabs, and with the attacking styles of both fighters likely to gel – a classic is on the cards in Manchester. The 21 year old Stourbridge smasher has stopped his last five opponents, picking up the scalp of Denton Vassell and landing the WBC International Silver title against Shayne Singleton and the Commonwealth belt against Joseph Lamptey in the process – along with a growing reputation for must-see fights.
Billy Joe Saunders, 21-0 (11), could face former foe Nick Blackwell, 16-3-1 (6), in a marking time fight while he waits on news of a challenge to Andy Lee for the WBO middleweight title. The BBBoC’s latest championship circular confirmed that promoter Frank Warren has won the rights to stage the British title defence, with the date and venue TBC.
There’s one future fight that stands out more than others for Rotherham’s Chad Gaynor. The Yorkshire prospect, who has a glowing reputation in his thriving region, extended his ledger to 14-1(7) last week with a hard-earned victory over Krzysztof Szot. Instantaneously, social network users requested an immediate showdown with Gaynor’s sole conqueror to date, Sunderland’s Glen Foot, and that is a score that the Coldwell Boxing youngster is desperate to settle.
Larry Ekundayo and Glenn Foot meet in the battle of the unbeaten Prizefighter champions at The O2 on October 5, live on Sky Sports – and Ekundayo hopes their battle can be made an eliminator for the British welterweight title. Ekundayo crashed into contention when he claimed the Prizefighter Light Middleweights III title in November at the York Hall in Bethnal Green after just two professional fights. Two months later, Foot came out on top in a barnstorming night at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton to lift the trophy in the Welterweights III.
2013 Prizefighter welterweight champion Glenn Foot (11-0, 6 KOs) continued his way up in ranks with the biggest win of his young career. Foot, 25, looked dominant over famed Welsh veteran Jason Cook (29-5-1, 15 KOs), stopping him in the seventh round of scheduled eight. Foot landed several very telling series of unanswered blows before a merciful stoppage was issued about twenty seconds after the start of the onslaught.
Wales’ Jason ‘The Power’ Cook is looking to secure victory over Sunderland’s undefeated Glenn Foot at the Rainton Meadows Arena on April 19 and then storm back into British title contention. The former European lightweight champion, who has twice come up short in British light-welterweight title fights, hasn’t fought since October 2011 but insists he is in great shape and is convinced he will have too much for Prizefighter winner Foot. “I feel great,” stated the amiable Cook. “I never retired I just took time out to get some personal issues out of the way. There was no thought of retirement and I’ve constantly kept myself fit. I thought I was very unlucky in my British title fights against Lenny Daws and [Ashley] Theophane and I still think I’ve got a lot to offer, whether it’s at light-welter or welterweight.
In the first quarterfinal of the next Prizefighter series (this time fought at light middleweight limit), Mark Thompson (25-2, 15 KOs) came back from his one-sided loss to Jack Culcay-Keth to stop Rob Hunt (17-2-2, 1 KOs) in the third round of their fight. Ironically, two most experienced contestants of this Prizefighter series collided in what is deemed by many to be a preliminary final of the tourney.
