Top light heavyweight contender Gilberto Ramirez is not pleased with the recent statements from Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, who stayed firm on his position that he doesn't want to fight any Mexican opponents.

Ramirez will return in the month of November in Abu Dhabi, when he challenges WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in a mandatory fight.

Next Saturday, Canelo will hit the ring to defend his undisputed super middleweight championship in a trilogy fight with Gennadiy Golovkin at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Canelo had attempted to unseat Bivol back in May, but he was outboxed over twelve rounds and suffered his first career defeat since 2013.

Ramirez has promised to avenge Canelo's loss by bringing back the world title to Mexico.

At the same time, he was hoping that a win over Bivol would lead to a showdown with Canelo.

The Mexican superstar is only interested in facing Bivol in a rematch - if Bivol overcomes Ramirez.

The last time Canelo faced a Mexican opponent was back in 2017, when he picked up a decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Ramirez feels strongly that the best should always want to fight the best - which in turn should motivate Canelo to fight him.

"The best has to fight the best. I'm a little sad [by Canelo's statements], because he doesn't want to fight Mexicans, but he has his reasons," Ramirez told TV Boxeo.

"I want to fight with the best, he is the best in his division, and I think we could give a good show to all of the people. Like Erik Morales did with [Marco Antonio] Barrera or how Julio Cesar Chávez did with [Oscar] De La Hoya, but I think he has his own strategy [for the future]."
