Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez (44-0, 30 KO's) has vowed to eliminate the possibility of a rematch between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KO's) and Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KO's).
In May, Bivol pulled off a big upset when he outboxed Canelo over twelve rounds to retain the WBA light heavyweight title.
Canelo had the ability to exercise an immediate rematch but ultimately decided to defend his undisputed super middleweight crown against Gennadiy Golovkin in a trilogy fight in September.
Canelo has stated in several interviews that he wants to face Bivol in a rematch in May of 2023.
Recently, the WBA ordered Bivol to make a mandatory defense against Ramirez.
Ramirez feels confident that a victory over Bivol will lead to future a showdown with Canelo.
The Mexican boxer also shot down the possibility of accepting a step-aside deal to allow Bivol to face Joshua Buatsi in the fall.
"Of course not, why would I have to do [a step aside deal] if I already have my mandatory opportunity, the title opportunity, the dream that I've been waited for.. for a long time," Ramirez stressed to ESPN Deportes.
"I'm sorry for Canelo, but that [rematch with Bivol] is not going to happen, unless he wants to continue fighting Dmitry Bivol, but after I beat [Bivol], [Canelo] will have no choice but to fight me.
"That fight [with Bivol] has to be done. He's already made himself known to the world [by beating Canelo]. If he doesn't want to, he'd look like a coward, which I don't think he is, I think he wants to fight too. And if it's for money, I think there's going to be good money as well. I know there's a title on the line and we're both going to do what we love, fight and I know I'm going to come out on top in that fight."
