2008 Olympian Gary Russell Jr is far removed from making his professional debut but his 3rd round knockout over late replacement Robert Castaneda was the most memorable moment of the Night of the Olympians card which featured the professional debut of five 2012 Olympians. Russell has been producing some highlight reel type knockouts and leaving people in awe with the display of his hand speed in his last few outings. Russell takes pride in being able to provide exciting finishes and giving the fans what they want as he discussed his most recent offering.

Luis Sandoval catches up with undefeated featherweight contender Gary Russell Jr. to discuss his recent win, what he wants to do next and more.

Hot prospect Gary Russell Jr., returning from a five month layoff, never missed a beat, landing 55% of his power shots before laying out late sub Castaneda in round three.

24-year old 2008 U.S. Olympian Gary Russell (21-0, 13 KO) of Capitol Heights, Maryland, continued his steady rise as a professional with a highlight reel third-round knockout of replacement foe 21-year old Roberto Castaneda (20-3-1, 15 KO) of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, on Friday night at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. Both men weighed in near the Featherweight limit on 126 lbs., Russell at 126 ¾ and Castaneda at 125. Russell landed a booming left cross from his southpaw stance and knocked Castaneda off balance but Castaneda quickly got his feet back set. Russell boxed patiently from there, controlling the action with his right jab through the remainder of the opening frame. The same was true through most of the second, Russell scoring points and waiting for his opening.

In a battle of undefeated prospects, Junior Middleweights Daquan Arnett (9-0, 6KOs) and Jeremiah Wiggins (10-1-1, 5KOs) put on a fun fight as Arnett’s skill overcame Wiggin’s aggression as he stopped him in the 4th round. Arnett was in control of the fight after the first 2 rounds as he landed his right hand and left hook to the body almost at will. In the 3rd round however, Wiggins landed a hard right hand in an exchange that hurt and dropped Arnett. Visibly hurt, Arnett held on and moved until he got his legs back. In the 4th round, Arnett pinned Wiggins on the ropes after landing a right and left hand combination. Arnett battered Wiggins with a barrage of punches that caused Wiggins to fall through the ropes and forcing the ref to call an end to the fight.
