CAGUAS, PUERTO RICO- Former super bantamweight and featherweight world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez weighed today 130 ½ pounds seven days before the official weigh-in for his bout against the World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia on June 15 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas in a Top Rank presentation to be broadcasted on HBO.
The cautious Mikey Garcia finally caught up with Jonathan Barros in round eight.
Mikey Garcia is the busier and more accurate fighter. Jonathan Barros not busy enough and can't crak - eight of his last nine fights have gone the distance.
Jonathan Barros is Mikey Garcia’s second opponent, but his foremost concern. If Garcia doesn’t beat Barros on Saturday night in Las Vegas, the undefeated featherweight contender’s title fight against Orlando Salido will be canceled, not postponed until February. Argentina’s Barros (34-3-1, 18 KOs) lost his last fight, but that 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat to Mexico’s Juan Carlos Salgado (26-1-1, 16 KOs, 1 NC) isn’t the fight on which Garcia (29-0, 25 KOs) has focused while preparing for the Barros bout, a 10-rounder that’ll open an HBO “Boxing After Dark” telecast at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.
By Jake Donovan - Future title shots are at stake in both legs of Saturday night's HBO doubleheader live from Las Vegas. Vanes Martirosyan and Erislandy Lara square off in a super welterweight bout with the winner allegedly guaranteed a shot at unbeaten titlist Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. The televised co-feature isn't a sanctioned eliminator, but more about preservation for Mikey Garcia. The unbeaten featherweight contender faces Jonathan Barros, who replaces injured featherweight champ Orlando 'Siri' Salido.

By Jake Donovan - It hasn’t been an easy few months for Mikey Garcia. The unbeaten featherweight contender has watched two title shots go south, for reasons far beyond his control. Having waited more than a year for his mandatory title fight to come to fruition, Garcia will now have to wait just a few months longer. A consolation prize is offered in an HBO showcase appearance this weekend. After watching separate fights with Celestino Caballero and Orlando Salido fall through, Garcia (29-0, 25KO) now faces former title challenger Jonathan Barros in the HBO-televised co-feature Saturday evening in Las Vegas.
