Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch gave high praise to Dillian Whyte for his performance on Saturday night in Gibraltar.

Whyte got revenge with a dominant four round stoppage of Alexander Povetkin to reclaim the WBC's interim-heavyweight title.

Back in August of 2020, Povetkin got off the floor, twice, to score a brutal knockout of Whyte in the fifth round.

Povetkin, 41-years-old, seemed every bit his age in the contest - with Whyte controlling the action until finally dropping him hard in the fourth - which prompted the referee to stop the fight when the Russian veteran got up on unsteady legs.

Froch saw a lot of positives, but he also saw Povetkin's age come in play.

While Whyte will move forward with is career, Povetkin has finally reached the end of the road of a long pro run.

"[Whyte] took his time after a very positive first round," Froch told Sky Sports. "He had some really heavy shots landing and Povetkin was looking shaky and wobbled.

"Nothing really landed totally flush, but he [Povetkin] was showing that he wasn't liking the pressure from Dillian Whyte. Then when Whyte started to connect and started to catch him, you could see Povetkin falling apart under the pressure of the shots. It was a punch-perfect performance from Dillian Whyte.

"Taking nothing away from Dillian Whyte, Povetkin did show his age there slightly. I'm not sure we'll see him again. But forget that, Dillian Whyte performed perfectly and he landed those big shots, and he gave himself distance and time. But when he had Povetkin hurt, he gave himself room, he didn't smother his work, and that's why he was able to land clean, finishing shots. It was an excellent performance by Whyte."
