Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch, who retired earlier this year, came face to face with promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions. Both men were in Dusseldorf, Germany for the big heavyweight showdown between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury.

Earlier this year, there were negotiations for a fight between Froch and WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, who Loeffler promotes.

Those discussions went nowhere when Froch announced his retirement from the sport.

Lately Froch has been hinting that he might be tempted to return in 2016, but only for a Golovkin fight.

Froch has put on some muscle mass and believes he might have to return as a light heavyweight - if a return were to happen.

He asked Loeffler about facing Golovkin at 172-pounds. According to Froch, Loeffler shot that idea down and stated that a fight at the super middleweight limit of 168 was unlikely as well. In their previous negotiations, Golovkin was willing to face him at 168.

Froch is under the impression that Golovkin is considering the idea of dropping down in weight for a catch-weight fight with WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who demanded 155 for their mandatory bout.

"I was talking to Tom Loeffler, who is his promoter, publicist or his manager. I asked him what weight Golovkin would fight [me at] because right now I'm 180-pounds. So I asked if he would come up to 172 and he said 'no,' that he probably wouldn't come up to super middleweight. The only fight I’d come back for potentially is Golovkin," Froch told Talk Sport.

“So if I was to come back, it would have to be for a really big fight like Gennady Golovkin, but having said that he's too small and talking about dropping down to 155-pounds to fight Canelo Alvarez. These are small guys compared to me.”
