Freddie Roach, trainer of WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs), expects the mega-fight with Saul "Canelo" Alverez (45-1-1, 32KOs) to take place in November, as previously stated by Canelo's promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions.
The fight was twice negotiated in the past and the bout fell apart. This time the sides appear to be very close with the date and time being the significant details needing to be ironed out.
Canelo prefers to be in a big stadium in Texas, with Cotto not really fond of fighting in that state and prefers Las Vegas or New York City. All three locations are in the running to stage the match.
At first the promoters wanted the fight to happen on September 12th. A conflict came up when Floyd Mayweather Jr. reserved the date with the Nevada State Athletic Commission and announced his intention to stage a pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"The fight is already going to happen in November. [The fight is] not yet [signed]. I understand that some details are missing, but the fact is that it will be in November," Roach told Rigo Cervantez.
