We’ve got more heavyweight business of our own happening at the BT Studio on Saturday – BT Sport 1 from 7pm – when the best young heavyweight in the world goes in with the 18-1 Dutchman Ricardo Snijders.
Frank Warren, co-promoter for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, says the superstar boxer will not have an worries of a mandatory defense for at least a year - once the mandatory challenger in established. The mandatory had been Dillian Whyte, and he was due a title crack by February 2021.
Frank Warren, promoter for undefeated rising heavyweight Daniel Dubois, has fired back at WBC-interim champion Dillian Whyte. Warren has called on Whyte to face Dubois next. Whyte returns on Saturday night at Matchroom's Fight Camp, when he faces former WBA champion Alexander Povetkin in a high stakes fight.
As Daniel Dubois looks to move forward with his career, his team had to take a moment to revisit the recent past. The unbeaten heavyweight from London remains on course for a stay busy fight on August 29, though he had to endure a change of opponents along the way. Dubois (14-0, 13KOs) will now face The Netherlands Ricardo Snijders (18-1, 8KOs), a late replacement for Germany’s Erik Pfeifer who was pulled from the show.
Until the official announcement was made to inform him otherwise, Erik Pfeifer was convinced that he had a deal in place for a fight with Daniel Dubois. Instead, the fringe heavyweight contender will have to come to grips with the reality that his fate resided all along with the rumors he heard only through the media.
CARL FRAMPTON, FOR me, has always been a thrill to watch and a pleasure to promote. Due to the stage he is at in his career we are not going to have too many more opportunities to see him in action so I am delighted he is topping our show on Saturday, live on BT Sport.
Carl Frampton is set for what literally represents his biggest challenge to date. The former two-division champion ventured into uncharted territory in his career, as he faces late replacement Darren “Trayn-Wreck” Traynor in a scheduled 10-round lightweight contest. Both boxers easily made weight for their headlining act, which takes place Saturday evening from a crowdless BT Sport Studio lot in East London (ESPN, 4:00pm ET).
In the last few days, Tyson Fury's co-promoters, Top Rank's Bob Arum and Queensberry's Frank Warren, have explained that there is very little interest in having their fighter make a mandatory defense of his WBC heavyweight title against Dillian Whyte.
Tyson Fury could fight behind-closed-doors this year if his third fight with Deontay Wilder is pushed back. Fury had been expected defend his WBC heavyweight title against Wilder on December 19 at the new Las Vegas Raiders stadium. But Bob Arum, Fury’s US promoter, has recently talked up the possibility of the fight moving back if no crowd is allowed.
Even though a mega-fight between heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has already been agreed upon, it’s on the backburner for now because of the global pandemic caused by coronavirus, and due to the fact that each fighter still has unfinished business with other opponents.
