Frank Warren, promoter for heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, does not expect Anthony Joshua to become a sparring partner in his fighter's ongoing training camp.
Fury is scheduled to fight WBC world champion Deontay Wilder on February 22nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Joshua then extended his services as a sparring partner, to help his countryman prepare for the important rematch. The first fight ended in a controversial twelve round split draw.
Joshua believes the sparring experience will help him prepare for a fight with Fury in the future.
But Warren has no interest in watching them spar - he wants to see the two of them fight.
"Who wants to see him (Fury) sparring with Anthony Joshua? What a load of bollocks," Fury said.
"We want to see him fight Anthony Joshua, forget about the sparring. The real deal counts. The public want to see it. I believe he will come through his fight with Deontay Wilder and let's see the Anthony Joshua fight. It would be the biggest sporting event since England won the World Cup in 1966."
Even Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, was pretty skeptical when discussing Joshua idea to become a sparring partner for Fury. Hearn found it strange, since Joshua could become an opponent for Fury in the not too distant future.
"I wouldn’t be surprised if he went out there. It’s a bit weird because he might fight the winner. Josh is his own boss, if he fancies it, he’ll just go. Doesn’t matter what I or Rob (McCracken, trainer) will say, he’ll just go. I wouldn’t want to open up that cut," Hearn told IFL TV.
