How much money does an average journeyman boxer like Danny Williams make?

Do boxers that are at a journeyman or BUM level make enough money to earn a living, purely off boxing without needing any other job? How much money do they make compared to an average full time job in Europe, UK or USA? Would they make more money than say, an average full time job such as working in a bank, working as a security, or a job that provides medium amount of wages compared to the highest paid jobs?

Danny Williams was in some decent fights & I'm sure got some nice purses in his career on the world & domestic levels. Later in his career he would take any paycheck but I'm sure he can make a decent living.

Depends on the fight, with Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko he probably pulled in around 250-350K for either fight. On average probably anywhere from 10K-25K, again depending on the opponent.

Danny Williams has probably grossed over 2 million in his entire career, but i feel like many boxers he did not invest this money well! Williams for about 80% of his career was not a journey man, he was pretty much JUST underneath world class level! And he was in some big domestic fights.

I don't think Journey men make much money, compared to Danny Williams. I could imagine journey men to make about 5-10 grand per fight.

That's still half decent money compared to most other normal professionals! considering doctors make like 50-80 grand per year. If you was a well known journey man and ready to take fights at short notice, you could easily make 50 grand per year! haha.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that professional athletes -- a category that includes professional boxers -- had an average salary of $75,760 in 2012, with a median salary of $40,060. Pro-boxing prospects may only fight a certain number of times a year and average annual salaries can vary widely. For example, a pro-boxer fighting 12 times yearly could make roughly $2,000 per 10 rounds boxed, or $24,000 at $200 per round. Pro-boxer salaries, however, are also decreased by various expenses.


From the looks a journeyman or novice fighter may well be looking at somewhere between the high $100s and the low $1000s per bout. You'd need to be fighting pretty damn regularly to make a decent living. I'd expect this to be considerably higher if we're talking about fighters who make it as far as televised slots though.

Danny had a decent enough name so I'm sure he did better than most of equal or comparable abilities.

I'd also suggest that a lot of these solid journeymen types probably make a nice % of their yearly income from working as sparring partners so there's that money coming in to. I've even heard of some guys finding it more profitable to become strictly sparring partners.

Also getting a higher caliber guy hiring you is huge too. Like David Rodela who was a long time Manny sparring partner (& still could be idk). I'm positive Rodela was making more money sparring Manny than he was fighting on shows.

There are so many intangibles from person to person it almost seems silly to guess, but I'd venture there are a couple hundred guys at & around that journeyman/professional sparring partner level probably knocking down $80k+ a year with a good clip of them making 6 digits.

Is a doorman a more acceptable term for club security or that sorta thing? Or is it something else entirely?

Randomly now that you bring that up doe I'm sure there are a ton of regular hour gigs in the security/bodyguard professions that a boxer could take advantage of for extra income while waiting for fights or if he's not one of the few guys making 6 digits & up for fights which is probably 99.5% of the guys boxing.
