Compact and just make a fight out of it as they're technically flawed?
With regards to fighting the other awkward fella. try to backpedal a lot and go forward to punch when you think he's off the stance and could not counter.

This is how you school an awkward fighter.

Stick to your fundamentals. Awkward fighters try to make you fight their game and get wild. Solid fundamental boxing will always beat an awkward fighter.

If by windmill punches you mean he throws wide, then straighter punches will beat him every time unless he is a whole lot faster than you. The only problem is that a lot of beginners keep their head still when they throw straight, but if you can slip or block while you throw and keep your punch in a straight line to his head, you should be able to beat his punch. Just throw a one two right down the middle, then look good by following up with whatever you like.
