Football is huge in the USA and pro football players make huge money. Nobody denies that. I love boxing and don't watch football.Good boxers make damn good money but they don't make as much money on average as pro basketball and football players because boxing is not a huge national sport.

2018 NFL rookie Saquan Barkley will make 7 million dollars per year in the next 4 years not counting sponserships. While guys like Loma & Crawford barley make 1-2 million a year in their prime of their careers.
Just read on espn crawford getting $3 mil for this fight against horn. So at that rate, if he fought 3-4 times a yr then thats very good cash. Loma will be making better cash soon. Prolly made a mil atleast in his 12th fight. And again... Fighting 3-4 times a yr is good cash and exposure.

Lol, what? Dak Presscot is a 1 in 1000 type situation, as is Russell Wilson. If you want to hold that up as some kind of expectation, you're a fool.

Errol Spence Jr is set to fight three times this year, making $1.5m per fight (plus whatever he's getting in sponsors and any back-end). Mikey Garcia seems set for three fights and he's on similar money.

Main event on Showtime, as the attraction, and you're looking at $1m for that fight, at least. Charlo brothers are basically on $500k a fight plus sponsors, and they're looking at at least 2 fights this year.

56 players on a team (14 on the practice squad), 32 teams in the league gives you 1800 players; only 100 on $1m a year is saying a lot.

Spence, Danny Garcia, Wilder, Mikey Garcia, Degale, Lara, Hurd likely, Jermall and Jermell Charlo likely, Adrien Broner, Adonis Stevenson, Badou Jack, Leo Santa Cruz, and Abner Mares are all likely seeing $1m+ this year, and that's just a partial count focused only on the fighters with Showtime. By the time all of 2018 is in the books, it wouldn't shock me if you have 20 folks with Showtime earning $1m this year.

Boxing suffers from not having a yearly event. May 5 and Sept 16 are two popular fight dates but they aren't events. I'd like to see an organization hold a week long event every year or some other interval where they say 'all of our champs fight, from minimum to heavyweight. All champs must fight their mandatory or next closest fighter. If the belt is vacant, the two highest ranked guys fight for it. If a champ is injured then he becomes champ in recess. All belt holders must adhere to this schedule' and then we got our Super Bowl for boxing. It won't happen but it'd be nice to see an annual Event in boxing.

barkley was the 2nd pick of the draft

and the OP and other posters are forgetting to factor in a rather large signing bonus

ive gone over this with guys many times as to why the US doenst have many real talented heavyweights

take a look at joey bosa and what his overall worth is already at his age(he has a younger brother set to get the same type of deal when he comes out next year)

left tackles and pass rushers are considered "premium positions" in the nfl along with qb and cornerbacks....left tackle and edge/pass rushers also have HW frames

bosa got a 24 million guaranteed deal for 4 years that also came with a 17 million dollar signing bonus....he will be 25-26 when his deal is up and could be in line for a much bigger one provided he stays healthy and plays pretty well

he would have to toil for years and hope to hit it big time in boxing to see that kind of scratch

                this is a stupid comparison

the NFL minimum salary for those on the roster is 465,000 per year. Thats for 16 games, plus pre-season, and practice. If we only count the pre-season and regular games, thats only 23,250 per game.

this kid is 6-5 270 and pretty lean.....hes 22 and worth 40 million already..if he stays healthy and continues to play as well as he has been already...he will see another contract probably worth at least 60 mil with a another huge signing bonus

how many american HWs are seeing that kind of scratch?

in the 90s LT was the biggest name on defense...he made around 2 mil a year.....now think back to the money that bowe, holyfield and tyson made in that era

                    the landscape has shifted greatly

the NFL is loaded with joey bosa's

Boxing suffers from having little exposure on network TV. Fighters are generally unknown to the average person.
