  • I guess that settles the 'Who wins Boxer vs MMA' question.

A 40 year old retired boxer who hasn't fought for nearly 3 years and hardly trained at all beat the living daylights out of the P4P #1 MMA fighter on the planet.

That's a question nobody has ever really asked.

Boxer wins at boxing and MMA fighter wins at everything else and I've never encountered anyone saying otherwise.

What Conor did was damn impressive though. I thought he would be tripping over himself and falling out of the ring within 3 rounds and instead he stole 3 early.

He could have been a great boxer had he chosen that discipline. Hell he looked like he'd been boxing longer than gervonta davis...

Was that question not already answered when Holly Holm destroyed the Rousey hype train?

An all time great boxer beating a MMA fighter in a boxing match really does nothing to solve the question. Kimbo beat up Ray Mercer, Coture beat Toney.

Holm beat Rousey, and now Mayweather beat McGregor. It's a stupid debate to have anyways. Conor takes down Floyd and gets him out in a round if it's UFC.

definitely a stupid debate to have. Couple of my buddies almost got into a fight over it the night of the fight. Simple really, Mayweather wins a boxing match and McGregor wins an MMA fight. Each has a puncher's chance certainly but highly unlikely at their level.

Exactly. The second Royce Gracie took down Art Jimmerson and got him to tap out before even applying a submission, that debate was settled. Or when Gene Lebell choked out a boxer decades before that.

So you have to go back to the 1600's to gather an example

Fact is, your #1 boy lauded for his 'stand up game' got left in a heap by a retired boxer who didn't train and hasn't fought in 3 years.

So Conor was somehow supposed to have a shot against someone who has been training in boxing all his life? Boxing is a small part of what these guys train. That's like asking Floyd to train a few months wrestling and BJJ and ask him to compete in a grappling tournament. No, we can go more recent if you want. James Toney getting tapped out in the first round by Randy Couture in 2010 would work. The fact is a 49-0 top boxer beat a guy with a record of 0-0. And the guy is not the pound for pound top fighter, maybe the top draw, but not the best fighter, but that's not the point. If you really want something to gloat about, maybe go more by Ray Mercer knocking out Tim Sylvia. Otherwise, you got nothing. Now if Mayweather could beat Conor in the cage where anything goes style wise and Floyd could avoid being taken down and submitted, you might have a point. So the real fact is the same as before this fight happened. Boxers usually lose in MMA fights and MMA fighters lose against boxers in boxing matches. This debate has been settled for decades.

Now if everybody or most people on here was saying Conor would easily win before the fight, I could see a reason for this, but they weren't. Anyone who knows anything about both sports knew Conor would lose. That's why Floyd wanted this fight, because it was an easy 50th win for him.
