Lacy was just another American hype job who people christened the next ATG because they showed them on tv like Taylor, pavlik, Berto, Alexander, mike jones etc. and Calzaghe was another slept on fighter because he wernt American, like burns, froch, geale, John, because everyone nos if you don't fight in America ( doesn't matter if your the champ and you can make more money fighting in your own country ) your a bum.
P.s. Calzaghe was slept on, but is now vastly overrated by most on this site and by most in England, he was talented but is one of the biggest WHAT IFS? in recent years, what if he tested himself in his prime against other prime fighters.
P.p.s. froch and burns are starting to get a little bit of due now but only becaus they are testing themselves against fighters known in the states, and geale because he went to Germany to beat sturm, and john because people like to ***** about the ring titles, so people are now giving him his due as top dog in his division

      Lacy was a terrible fighter.

He had decent power, that was it. No defence, no boxing IQ, no plan B....he went in and threw as hard as he could, if that wasn't enough, L.

Lacy was horrible. Like a much worse version of Cloud.

He looked lack luster against Omar Shieka for crying out loud.

He was merely solid in the broader historical sense, but remember that in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. This ain't the 1940's where even the 6 round fighters were hungry and somewhat talented. The talent pool of boxing has been sapped by mma, more opportunities available to the working class, and other newer sports.

Jeff Lacy had a crowd pleasing style that easily captivated television boxing audiences. He was an infighting slugger, who threw lots of punches, with a good chin and decent power. However in retrospect/hindsight, I still believe that he was too green when he had agreed to cross the pond and challenge Calzaghe in his back yard. His handler's made a huge miscalculation in cashing him out against an opponent in his prime and with at least twice as much professional boxing experience than him.

run's a cool guy, but any respect he has here has little to do with his thoughts on boxing.

The next Tyson. Beating up fringe contenders like Tyson, then gets a severe outboxing and is never the same, like Tyson.

                Hmmm..

Jeff Lacy wasn't a bum. He also wasn't a boxer and that was his downfall.

"Fighters" don't last long in boxing. Jeff Lacy thought that he was going to come in there with all those muscles, molester this skinny old white guy and knock him out.

When Calzaghe was out-boxing him while standing in front of him, easily tying him up AND actually took one of his punches flush, it was downhill for Lacy's confidence.

The real mistake in this scenario isn't that LACY fell in love with his punch, it's that his HANDLERS fell in love with his punch. While a fighter is training the thought of defeat out of his mind, his handlers should be considering all the possible scenarios.

Lacy was a D/C- level boxer, C+ level fighter whose people made one bad estimation that he'll pay for forever.

Lacy was a decent fighter with limited skills good power. I didn't know much about Calzaghe at the time so I thought Lacy would destroy him
