Abel saying that he thought Canelo won in a close fight was absolutely crazy coming from his own trainer and saying mid fight that he was losing is insane even if it was meant to make him work harder.
100% on the first part. You always back up your team specifically when the narrative most people have of the fight is better than what your saying it was ffs. I mean the story was written that GGG was robbed of a W again in most fans minds already. Abel just needed to not say sh^t at that point one way or another. Crazy mfing Abel's like "nah GGG lost". Crazy sh^t lmfao. I'd have kicked him to the curb before Sunday afternoon for that dumb sh^t. You're on team GGG or your not & thats some not on the team sh^t to say.
Randomly I'm legit curious what these guys have been like with each other since that night. I'd bet its not been good.
As to the "your losing" thing I think saying things in the corner like that with the potential to motivate or influence how a guy fights is fine. They often look bad to viewers, but if your trying to get something outta your guy he's not giving you its fair play I feel like.
Now if you go to the level of Floyd Sr in the Manny vs Floyd fight where idek wtf Floyd Sr was seeing or talking about by saying Floyd was losing & scared & all sorts of sh^t when he was winning & controlling the fight outside of that one lil multi-punch combo Manny threw where everything was mostly hitting gloves any damn way to me thats a bit crazy town & out of bounds. Floyd shoulda got up from the stool & sat Floyd Sr down on the stool & told Floyd Sr he's f#cking losing it right now.
I think what's happening here with the whole Abel situation is that Golovkin is taking over his career. He was probably getting fleeced by Loeffler, Abel and the Hermann Brothers. That's why when he signed that massive contract with DAZN he started cleaning house. That's why he broke off with all of them. He's no longer with the Hermann Brothers following a $3.5M lawsuit. There were reports that Loeffler wasn't going to help manage his career anymore, and Loeffler probably came back at a reduced rate and he offered Abel a reduced rate as well.
Okay strike all the bs I said about never hearing about such a drastic cut in trainer pay cuz apparently SRL did it to Angelo Dundee back in the day. Did some googling & found the below.
Angelo said, "Trainer rushed me into signing a new contract that he hand wrote and gave to me at ringside in Tucson in 1979. It cut two years off my 15 percent contract with them and spelled out I would only get $100,000 for title fights, $50,000 for non-title . . . They did relent when they gave me $175,000 for working with Ray in the Hagler fight." A $175,000 payday could leave Angelo quite saddened, especially after his quick calculation that his original 15 percent cut of a Leonard purse would have been worth something like $1.2 million that night. "They cut me way back," he said.
It maybe standard, but maybe not standard when fighters are signing $100m contracts. No way is Canelo's trainer getting $35m from Canelo's $350m contract.
I work in the music industry and i'd liken it to music managers. Management is generally around 15-20% standard. However, when the artist is like Beyonce or someone like that level, the huge earners, their managers will be getting significantly less than 20%, more like 4-5%, if that, but 5% of their earnings is still substantially more than 20% of most artists.
