my lao exes, their family gathering, they have those huge dip platters you use for chips and dip.
bagoong isda in the middle and they have vegetables they dip in it.

Fish paste but not patis. The one I have has a brand name L'Aplaya. We use it as a sauce for unripe mango with a lot of crushed chili pepper.
