It used to be, I wish it still was. Little things like that rule change the dynamic alot! To the point where MMA is gradually turning into what Bruce Lee called organized despair.

Headbutts from top control and during take downs would be a menace.

It also makes the stand up more exciting.

Its relatively safe compared to things like head kicks.

Cuts would happen more but no more than with elbows and they dont stop things much so that K1 and pride rule is silly.


I wish but its an image thing, the UFc dont want to be seen as too brutal because it hurts the business.

I dont see it as any cheaper than kicking a stunted guy in the face, or kneeing someone in the face ie a short guy.

I think its a necessary and realistic balance for the shorter guys too, they cant high kick, or knee to the head very well, they deserve a weapon that works in their favor for once.

I mean as far a brutal goes holding someones head down as you knee them in the face over and over is far more brutal than a nut to the face.

Kicks knees and elbows to the head are legal and that will bust your face up real quick and we all know that stuff can lead to serious head trauma.

It should be legal because how are rear naked chokes legal? A good way to defend yourself in a "fight" against someone choking you from behind is a headbutt, if you have the space to do it. Also pinching someone really hard on their sides would get them off you, biting their arm as well. Imagine if Holly Holm would have bit down on Tate's arm, she would have won. MMA is really flawed, because it's fighting like street fighting, but some key street moves are banned. That explains the exchange of belts so quickly, and how a fighter can't really dominate at the top level for very long. Either ban rare naked chokes, or unban headbutting, biting, scratching, and pinching.
