Bond being white isn't an important part of his character.

In the books Bond is described as having dark eyes and black hair. Daniel Craig is blue-eyed and blonde. Yet he's an amazing Bond because those things aren't important.

What are the important aspects of the Bond character? He's posh, he's arrogant, he's handsome, he's a womaniser, he has a strong physical presence, he comes across as a badass yet he's quite emotionally vulnerable.

These are all things that Elba has pulled off in other high-profile roles. He at least deserves consideration.
