boston terriers. My dog loves my son, my son can be not so gentle sometime but "bella" is very good and was very very protective of caleb when we came home from the hospital with him. Their practically best friends

Most breeds outside of the wild ones. Dogs know a baby is a baby and behave accordingly. I don't think I've ever had or been around a dog that, when you bring a newborn around, isn't like "Oh shit it's a baby cool I gotta be careful."

Dogs have evolved to be social animals for pretty much as long as humans have. They have certain instincts like we do to be kind and gentle to our own, especially babies.

What are dog breeds that are great (particularly safe) to have around toddlers? I'm thinking of buying one for my year old daughter, it's nice to have a dog for her to grow up with, and I'm a dog person.

A Beagle. They r a little energetic but very kind small/medium dogs.
