You do realize local governments hire lawyers, city planners, city managers, IT people, city engineers, inspectors, admin staff, all with salary and benefits, and no need for union. Cops should be the same.

This is flat out wrong. None of these groups provide the functions a union does. You literally have no idea what you are talking about. All state and city employees belong to a union. How do you not know this?

Do you think towns are going to exploit their police force without a union? Towns will only pay minimum wage?
Please tell me some horror stories of how exploited local cops were before they unionized?

What kind of ******ed moron asks if police will be paid minimum wage? It's about livable wages, not minimum.
Who makes sure police wages increase when the cost of living increases? who will advocate for fair working conditions, benefits, time off and all the other non pay related functions?

We all understand the concept of unions. The problem is you clearly have no idea that state and city employees are union protected and why they are.

God damn you just don't get it..

How come city managers and all the staff at city hall don't have unions? That's the question

Just like cops don't need them?

The local area isn't going to exploit cops, and will offer benefits/salary to hire/retain police..

If city hall ****s up and doesn't have a good police force, then the anger comes from the voters and that's the mechanism that protects cops not a union.

The Mayor's staff doesn't have a union because they only work with that Mayor you ******ed bumblefuck idiot. They go when the Mayor leaves. The police officers, however, are hired by the town and stay on regardless of who occupies the Mayor's office.

The rest of the town employees-garbage, water, court, judges, police, fire ALL HAVE A UNION!!!!
What if the Mayor wants to fire an officer, who would argue on the officer's behalf? the mayor? his staff?

My god at first i thought you were just playing around but you seriously have no idea about the structure of your local government nor the unction of a union outside of pay.

You keep saying "what town would stiff police with pay". Idiot, the officers themselves might feel they are underpaid. If they do, who would argue for them to get a raise if the Mayor and council , who represent the people that elected them, feels they are paid enough??
