  • The ten most disturbing cinema experiences?

I'm not talking about someone shining their mobile phone (cel phone, Fat Yanks) in your eyes while watching a movie, I'm talking about movies that REALLY unsettle.

I had this genius idea after reading this post by ßringer:

Maybe you should make a thread, ****.

    Wink, wink.
Just came to me out of the blue.

The film we were discussing was Irreversible.

Now, I need to think on this, but, off the top of my head, another one I saw that really unsettled me was the original Funny Games.

That's two foreign movies, so there could be a point there that the language barrier also puts a distance between the viewer and the material. Also, the direction in a lot of these European movies tends to be very unemotive, almost passive, like you're a helpless spectator. Witness that when Funny Games was remade for the US market with Tim Roth (by the same director) it had more warmth, and a few close ups.

While I think on more, what about you guys?

Thrilled to see you followed through with it.

It's going to take me some time to come up with my definitive list here (I expect most lounge 'tards to chime in with stupid "gore porn" titles like "yo, dude, 'A Serbian Film' was freakin' crazy, bro!"), but Irreversible is absolutely on my list.

Another that's going to make the cut is Cannibal Holocaust. The movie itself is just ridiculously stupid and absolutely falls in to the aforementioned loathsome genre, but it was knowing beforehand that the animal torture scenes were legitimate that made me so uncomfortable during my viewing.

I know that I have a reputation as being an emo crybaby thanks to you, but in reality I'm actually quite detached from scenes of violence (I regularly watch ISIS videos when they make headlines just to be more well informed), except when it comes to scenes of animal cruelty.

Something about victimizing a defenseless animal for ****s and giggles really unnerves me to the point where I'll stop viewing.

Anybody who has watched Cannibal Holocaust and feels similarly towards animals will know exactly what I'm talking about.

So there's two. Now I just need to dredge the dark recesses of my brain to come up with eight other movies that fit the bill.

Absolutely solid call from the Emo Cenobite there. That is DEFINITELY on my list.

The stuff with the human dismemberment I can handle, maybe even get shamefully turned on by, and, tbh, I don't have an issue with snakes getting hacked. I ****ing hate snakes.

But that turtle? Took me two days to get over it, no lie.

I'm sure there are more where I'll go "ah, yeah..." but for now I'm having to think.

I'm unsure if Eraserhead ever made me feel truly uncomfortable. It probably did when I picked it as a date movie.

        Eraserhead was so hauntingly weird.

Definitely not a date movie. WTF were you thinking?

EDIT : The thing that pissed me off most about the animal killing scenes in Cannibal Holocaust was the fact that they could've easily done special effects on it and still had completed their stupid little apocalyptic gore fantasy movie.

There was literally no need to kill all of those animals other than some lazy **** on set going "eh, **** it, let's just kill a bunch of real live animals to save some time..."

Deliverance. When Alexkid gets screwed in the azz and is commanded to squeal like a pig is terrifying.

          Anyone ever seen it?

          Alexkid getting his love!

I have NO ****ing idea. When we'd split up I asked her to watch I Spit On Your Grave with me as well.

Though probably the worst was lending my mum and sister my DVD of Pulp Fiction. Quite why I thought an old lady in her 70s would enjoy **** rape is beyond me.

She wasn't too keen on Pulp Fiction, either.

Another I'll throw on to my list is Man Bites Dog.

Definitely not uncomfortable in the same style as my previously mentioned two, but still made me feel a bit uneasy given all I know of serial killers, social psychology, and the media sensationalism of their crimes tending to inspire copycat killers.

I'm pretty positive there was at least one **** sat at home watching it going "Aye, this looks like a right fackin' romp, innit?"

              (Clegg...)

You need to dedicate a thread to detailing your dating exploits. Do it in TC if you're not comfortable putting it out in the lounge.

Throw the original version of The Last House on the Left on to my list, too.

Similar in nature to I Spit on Your Grave, it's another of the early 70s "rape revenge" subgenre within the realm of horror. Only this time the poor girl getting raped and brutalized dies, her torturers end up at her family's house later on, and her parents concoct a plan of exacting revenge that involves the girl's mother playing the role of seductress, having to sexually seduce one of the murderers and then biting his dick off.

The same dick that had, just hours prior, brutally raped her own daughter.

In other words it would make for your next great date movie, Annie.
