Messi was horrendous by his own standards.

He was embarrassed to be awarded player of the tournament. That was an utter joke. Must have been about 20 players more deserving.

James Rodriguez should have won that award comfortably.

Argentina conceded what 4 goals in 7 games.. They scored 8 in 7.. most vs world beaters like Nigeria.. Iran and Bosnia..

Had to beat Swiss in extra time.. and could not score vs the Germans and Dutch

If your telling me Messi carried anything and the Argies run wasn't down mainly due to a strong defence.. i don't know what to tell you..

Everyone was raving pre tournament about Messi.. Lavezzi.. Di MAria.. Aguero.. Higuian.. they failed massively..

And yet he literally had every stat in the WC over any player and was rated #1 by every stat website. He seems normal because of the amount of goals he judged by. People should look at Messi ad a mid because that's what he played for in Argentina and finished the WC with the most created chances. James for example scored against bums and did nothing after the knock out groups. Messi gets criticized for scoring only in the Group stages but James did the same went ghost after.

What stats are you going on about?.. heres one.. The german goalkeeper completed more passes then messi in the WC.

After the group stages Argentina scored TWO goals in open play.. So he certainly wasn't topping any goals made or scored list.. He did nothing and was rewarded with a meaningless trophy because he's Messi

James was the star man in an average side, his 6 goals dragged them to the quarters. He was also MOTM against Brazil in a game they were unlucky to lose; James had the highest average match rating of any player.

Messi was playing for a team with world class players in most positions.

James and Muller were the players of the tournament.

Never said it was his best but Messi still did his part. People act like he was a no show. He isn't Ronaldo who just waits to score and offers nothing else. He was there only creative player in the final. James and Messi both doing really good in this copa should be a good one this year.

But in the WC if this is doing nothing well i guess he raised the bar so high for himself.

Yes but i think Iniesta also had a case also. Corrupt is Ronaldo 2013, Ronaldo in top 3 last season and Ronaldo top 3 this season. Suarez, Messi(depending how Copa goes he could win it again) or Iniesta if spain win it and he wins player of the tournament.
