that played some role on the surface level but the main underlying issue here is that jeb was supposed to win the nomination for the RINOs then sacrificed to hillary in the general. mccain, bushes, clintons are all in league with each other. neocons and neolibs are two sides of the same coin. but trump derailed all of this.

when you say fans do you mean his hardened base or the average republican voter? because many of trump's hardened base are libertarian and therefore would've voted for ron paul in 08.

2008 and 2019 is also a significant time difference. maybe they supported mccain for partisan reasons in 2008 but not anymore in 2019, when much of him has been exposed.

btw what positive things have been exposed about george w bush since he left office? why do liberals, after a decade of calling him dumb and a war criminal, wash his balls in 2019?

To be clear, when i say his fans Im talking about people who believe Trump can do and say no wrong. Whether they are republican, libetarian, independant, doesnt matter. Its a mindset these people took on. Even when Trump contradicts himself (like interventions in Syria for example), he cant contradict himself, because he is always right, according to these people. I thought it was anti-American to disrespect a soldier's service to our coutry. At least thats what I was always taught. When did that change? Again if thats you then thats you and if not then its not.

As for McCain, if republicans feel differently about him today then they did back in 08 then fine. But then those attacks would have come independantly of Trump, and personally I have not seen that. Basically, if a democrat said about McCain what Trump is saying about him, the republicans would sing a different tune.

But we dont give Hitler a full pass for his actions outside of his military service solely because he was a good soldier.
